Keeping your teeth in the best condition and preventing decay begins with regular in-office cleanings.
Keeping your teeth in the best condition and preventing decay begins with regular in-office cleanings.
Getting teeth cleanings on a regular basis is absolutely essential, if you want to minimize the amount of time and money spent in a dental office, and avoid health problems that have become serious. Let’s face it, spending time in a dental office is something no one really wants!
Preventing bacteria buildup in your mouth, which can cause decay and gum disease, is the ultimate purpose of dental cleanings. It is absolutely essential to properly care for your teeth and gums, because of health problems such as cancer and heart disease that can manifest when mouth bacteria is permitted to go unchecked.
Plaque Build up – What Is It?
It is a very sticky and soft substance that will build up on your teeth when you do not practice good dental hygiene at home by flossing and brushing on a regular basis.
Tartar is different, however, as it forms above and below your gum line, and is very hard to remove. This tartar is plaque that has been allowed to harden on your tooth’s surface.
Problems that are much greater can be caused, if this build up of tartar is allowed to progress. It begins as gingivitis most of the time, and can progress into full-blown gum disease, if not treated.
Every time you try brushing, your gums will start bleeding, and become swollen and painful. Please call our office immediately if this begins happening to you.
The removal of tartar requires treatment with special dental instruments, and it becomes harder to remove, and much more destructive the longer tartar is allowed to build up on your teeth.
Dental Cleaning – What is Involved?
When you come into our office for a thorough and complete teeth polishing and cleaning, here is what to expect:
Getting That Beautiful Shine By Polishing
We will polish your teeth to a beautiful finish, in addition to giving your teeth a thorough cleaning. Making your teeth much smother is a big part of what our cleaning will help, as well as making tartar and plaque build up on your teeth more difficult.
We will use polishing paste and a small rubber cup that is motorized in order to polish your teeth. We will use a special formula and air polisher to rid your teeth of the tougher stains, if the build-up on your teeth is somewhat harder than is normal.
This procedure can actually reverse bacteria growth and yield a mouth that is squeaky clean.
A Few Things It Will Be Helpful For You To Know:
Maintaining a good oral hygiene program is necessary for a healthy mouth, and is very important to your dental health.
Along your journey with us in this office, our dental professional will help you better understand everything and take great care of you, so call our office today if you have any of the symptoms mentioned above.
